The monthly Art Walk Easthampton has a new way for guests to explore the event's diverse offering of visual, music and performance events - a free shuttle service.

The new service kicks off with the May 10th Art walk and will travel among the clusters of participating venues. The brightly colored bus comes from Holyoke Community College and is called La Guagua, the little bus. The shuttle seats 20 and is wheelchair accessible.

Stops for the May 10th Art Walk Easthampton are at Eastworks on Pleasant Street, at Blue Guitar Gallery on Northampton Road, at Old Town Hall on Main Street and on Cottage Street by the Nashawannuck Dam.

Easthampton Paint Out: A Call for Plein Air Painters

EASTHAMPTON, MA – The growing creative community of Easthampton is going to have its first plein air painting competition in a “Paint Out” set for May 8-10.

During the two-day event, participating artists must paint within the city limits of Easthampton at an outdoor location. The freshly completed works will be exhibited at Nashawannuck Gallery beginning May 10 with a grand prize winner and a people’s choice winner announced during that evening’s Art Walk Easthampton.

“The Connecticut River Valley has a long history of plein air painting,” says Marlies Stoddard, manager of Nashawannuck Gallery and the event’s organizer. “A Paint Out seemed like a natural extension of this proud artistic history and contributes to the growing recognition of Easthampton as an arts community.”

Oils, acrylic, watercolor and mixed media/painting works are accepted.

The Easthampton Paint Out begins with the stamping of your blank canvas at Nashawannuck Gallery. Stamping begins at 11 am Thursday, May 8th and continues during normal gallery hours through Saturday, May 10th at 11 am. Completed pieces are to be returned to the Gallery by 2 PM on Saturday for exhibition and judging. The exhibition will open with a reception at 5 PM during Art Walk Easthampton.

The exhibition will include a grand prize selection by the show juror as well as a “people’s choice” award where Art Walk attendees vote for a favorite work. Winners will be announced at 7:30 PM during the opening reception. The grand prize winner and the People Choice award winners have their painting purchased by Easthampton Savings Bank for $300 each.

More information about the show and a registration form may be obtained at www.NashawannuckGallery.com and at www.ArtWalkEasthampton.org

Entry Fee: $20

Registration: Register at Nashawannuck Gallery, 40 Cottage Street, Easthampton beginning on Thursday, May 8th at 11 am. Registrations will be accepted through Saturday, May 10th at 11 am.
