Art Walk set for Sat. in E'HampThursday, October 11, 2007 EASTHAMPTON - Since it started one year ago, the monthly Art Walk Easthampton has grown to the point where there is a waiting list of 90 artists, musicians and performers who want to participate. The 13th Art Walk, which will be held on Saturday from 5-8 p.m., will feature more than 36 events, the biggest ever. Activities include belly dancing, a pumpkin carving contest, a fire arts show, live music and a musical tribute. In the last year, 232 artists, musicians and performers have participated, said Michael J. Crawford, a photographer who organizes the walks with his partner Thomas A. Hanus. "The event has grown to an average 20 locations and events across Easthampton. We believe this success demonstrates Easthampton's rise as a creative community. Not bad for an unofficial, grass-roots effort," Crawford said of the Art Walk. In the first year, Art Walk Easthampton worked with the Manhan Rail Trail Committee to install a connector between the path and the Eastworks factory complex on Pleasant Street, a popular venue. In the coming year, the organization plans partnerships with the city's Parks and Recreation department for its concerts in the park series and with the Easthampton Historical Society to develop a "roving spotlight" on structures and locations of historical interest with an on-site docent from the society, Crawford said. At Saturday's Art Walk, Team FADE, a fire arts performance group, will have shows at the Nashawannuck Gallery, 40 Cottage St., at 6:15 and 7:15 p.m. At Luthier's Co-op at 108 Cottage St., there will be a musical tribute to Frank E. Lucchesi, owner of Lucchesi Vintage Instruments, who died on Sept. 29. |
