|
Venue:
Blue Guitar Gallery Event Time: 5-10 PM |
Address: 186 Northampton St |
Event: Join us for the Grand Opening of the Blue Guitar Gallery!
Karen's paintings literally hover between worlds: a printer, bookmaker and poet as well as painter, she often prints a veil of letters into the painting that at first appears like leaves in a forest, making the viewer a dreamer/voyeur peering THROUGH language into a woman's inner world. What we see there is a series of encounters between the human, plant, and animal realms of existence. |

Artist: Maggie Nowinski |
Medium: Painting - Mixed Mediums |
|
Venue:
Manhan Cafe |
Address: 72 Union St |
Event: Maggie Nowinski is an artist and musician who works in her studio in the Paragon Arts and Industry Building, in Easthampton Massachusetts. She creates her work utilizing a variety of mediums. The materials themselves carry significant meaning and formal intentions, but always add substance to the life of each piece.
Maggie is at present working on a few projects including large scale peel paintings, which aesthetically and metaphorically reflect large scale billboards found in “natural” urban settings. These paintings are multiple-part constructs and include a variety of self referential, self-appropriated imagery. She is also working on mixed media installations that explore language, identity and subjectivity.
Maggie Nowinski has been making art her entire life and has a BFA in painting from
SUNY New Paltz, which she received in 1997. She will be completing an MFA program in August, 2007. For more information on her work please go to www.maggienowinski.com or email the artist at nowinkies@yahoo.com.

Artist: Scott 'spark' LaRochelle |
Medium: Photography - Color |
|
Venue:
Valley Art Supplies |
Address: 76 Cottage St |
Event: Scott “spark” LaRochelle is a native of Easthampton. He has dabbled in various formats of arts and crafts since his youth. But it was a gift from his godparents of a recyclable 110 camera that sparked his interest in photography. His first 35mmm camera came as a graduation gift and led him to train in the development and printing of black & white film. From there he furthered his education through the New York Institute of Photography, graduating in 1989.
Though Scott took time out to draw, paint and write poetry, he always returned to photography. His works are rarely planned, rather they “happen in the moment”. His main love is nature and capturing the beauty and wonder he sees there. The artist has so far kept photography as a hobby but has enjoyed numerous awards over the past few years for his work. Most of the artist’s work has been donated to charity auctions rather than sold. Scott started doing volunteer work and fundraising over six years ago helping such organizations as AIDS CARE/Hampshire County, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Autism Speaks and The Food Bank Farm of Western Mass. It just seemed natural that his love of photography would merge with his desire to help others. You can contact Scott at spark_designs@verizon.net.
