Treasures, located in the Eastworks building, will be displaying a myriad of artwork during this month's Art Walk. The display will include both contemporary and antique paintings, prints and original drawings. Among the artist's whose work will be shown is California based sculptor, Linda Besemer. This artist's work 'Large Zip #3' as well as many other amazing pieces will be for sale at Treasures!! Come check it out!!

Below is an excerpt from a recently published article on Besemer from the New York Times.

'One of the holy grails of mid-20th-century Modernist painting was the fusion of paint and its support. The stain paintings of Helen Frankenthaler and Morris Louis were said to have achieved that mystical goal. Linda Besemer has done it with Post Modernist insouciance by making colorfully striped and gridded paintings consisting of nothing but acrylic paint.

Typically she has draped her smooth, rubbery sheets of paint over custom-made metal dowels, displaying them like bath mats at Ikea. Only one of Ms. Besemer's new works is on a rack. The others are still made entirely of many layers of paint, but they are attached flat to the wall, the better to show off their ravishing visual qualities. The paintings, whose dimensions range from 5 to 15 feet, are produced using digitally processed stencils. They have open plaids of primary colored bands layered over finely grained fields of single-color stripes or grids. They are further complicated by localized distortions, creating the illusion of convex bulges in the otherwise flat topography of the picture plane.

The wedding of optically enthralling design and sensuously supple material -- activated by a hint of 80's-style Neo Geo commodity fetishism -- results in an exceptionally satisfying exhibition.' --NY TIMES--

Everthing I make has a story to tell. The materials I use are things people could no longer find a use for and choose to get rid of.For me there is nothing like finding a wrench made in 1894 at a tagsale or a antique lantern someone lost 50 years ago. These pieces have such a rich history,It seems a shame for them not to be reused. Using found objects guarentees me that no two pieces are the same. The art I create is a part of who I am. A product of the 1980's raised on skateboards garbage pailkids, transformers, madmax and punkrock.A self taught welder and art school dropout.I have always taken the road less traveled and followed my heart. On that road less traveled I find my inspiration everday. Contstantly learning, discovering and creating. Thats what its all about is'nt it?

All of my giraffes are female, I must admit. Maybe I am a chauvinist. I tell people that they are My Harem. I do enjoy the beauty of females. But the major reason is that my ladies are made to be eye-catchers and conversation pieces. Each giraffe personality is somewhat vain as well as being friendly. Each lady expects to be the center of attention, and this requires dressing up with cosmetics, jewelry, hoof polish, etc. All Ladies are made of wood. The heart of my art is the wood laminating process I use to make the basic form before sculpting begins. Paint is outdoor enamel covered with an enamel clear coat for added protection. I have made ladies from 1' up to 8'. As far as color combinations, customers have choices when they order. Most popular have been regular giraffe colors, and a new variety - hammered copper spots over a cream background. Ponder this thought: If Giraffes ran the world, we would have world peace.

Furniture as art. Each piece is unique and hand painted. If you enjoy pattern and color, or if you enjoy repurposing forgotten items, come view the display. I also paint whimsical images on wood. The impact of color and pattern inspire us to look at everyday items from a new perspective. I enjoy taking something functional and making it unique with human expression.
