Event: Chris was born and raised in Holyoke. He attended the visual arts program at Holyoke Community College and later received a scholarship to the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. His works have shown in Holyoke, Easthampton, and Florence. His work is a conglomeration of styles ranging from surrealism to abstract expressionism. It exudes a sense of freedom as well as discipline.

Event: Hopes for warmth and whimsy in the coming season. Mischa Epstein Alvarado creates warm and inviting collages from handmade paper and paint, with both whimsical and sophisticated style. She is influenced by all her past and present surroundings, including having grown up in New England. Each piece has a personality and life all its own.

Event: RED - An Easthampton City Arts curated group exhibit. With Valentine's Day approaching, and in celebration of Art Walk Easthampton's 2nd Annual Fire & Ice Celebration, this group show will feature the works of area artists with the theme of RED. Painting, photography, sculpture, jewelry, fiberarts, and much more. Submissions are still be accepted until January 20th. All works may not make it into the exhibit due to space limitations. Event: Introspective / Retrospective: Retrospective exhibition by Laurie Goddard, Shelburne Falls Artist with studios both in Shelburne Falls and in the I Cottage St. building in Easthampton. This exhibit features work in various media – acrylic, mixed media, encaustic – from the last 5 years, showcasing Goddard’s constant creativity and boldness. “ I am influenced by the great Modernists and the Abstract Impressionists, as well as recorded Music and Poetry. Gesture, serenity, memory, elegance and the thrill of the hunt are my main motives for painting.”

Event: Acoustic performers will warm your hearts with songs of love of all sorts.

Event: February's Fire and Ice theme continues from 5 - 8 p.m., and in several locations you will be greeted with Ice Votives to light your way. Depending upon the weather, of course, these candles should adorn the steps of the Old Town Hall, Nashawannuck Gallery, Mt. Tom's Homemade Ice Cream, and several other locations.

Venue: Riff's Joint	Address: 36 Union St.
Event: My name is Brienne Cosman and I have been painting while I attend UMass Amherst for a Master in Design. I enjoy drawing in pen and ink and then layering the paint and then more ink and so on until I feel a piece is finished. I paint objects that are around me from my cat to my sewing machine. My subjects tend to get blurred by the end of the painting process turning into something that is more colorful and dynamic then what I started with.

Event: Paul has been capturing New Englands unique environment in photographs ever since his parents put a camera in his hands at an early age. Most recently, Paul has published some of his photographs in a book of poetry, 'Tangle With A Thistle' written by his nephew Shane Robitaille. Paul continues to photograph his everday surroundings and lives in the Pioneer Vally of Western Massachusetts with his son, Chris.

Event: Hidden Treasures of the Local Landscape Local naturalist and landscape photographer Claire Dacey presents a striking series of large format photos of local natural areas. Using her old-fashioned, rosewood film-camera, Claire captures scenes that convey a strong sense of place -- with subtle light and remarkable detail that make them seem real enough to step right into. The heart of this exhibit is a collection of photos and natural history narrative profiling the Edward Dwyer Conservation Area in downtown Easthampton, sponsored by a 2008 grant from the Easthampton Cultural Council.

Event: Don Cooper and Dr. Linda Henderson will be showing some of their favorite nature images from the local area. This show may likely include a bear or two, but they will share the walls with other wildlife.

Event: In addition to his landscapes, Roger creates baseball themed imagery. Besides exhibitions, his paintings have appeared in books, literary reviews and, most recently, on mlb.com. Event: Robert Grant says: 'I do this with transparent watercolors, water-based pigments that allow ambient light to pass through and be reflected by the painted surface. This is my medium of choice because it feels well suited to my purpose. The effects of light are not painted; they are revealed. The white surface on which I paint provides the light, as in photography and printing. Careful yet free-flowing application of transparent watercolor, shaped with line and enlivened by color and value relationships, reveals the light.'

Event: Local artist, Marlene Rye, will exhibit paintings, monotypes, and prints at Easthampton City Arts/Cultural Council Gallery. 'Travel in your mind back to a time as a child when you were in the �wilderness�: backyard, vacant lot, roadside, field, or forest. Remember how the world looked as you crawled through the grass, each individual blade becoming a towering tree, rocks transformed into mountains. Visualize looking through the brambles and thickets of your backyard and feeling the enormity of that space juxtaposed with the closeness of the surrounding branches. See a field, feel the openness of the air and the closeness of the warm ground beneath, expanding and contracting the space at the same time. These sensations are at the heart of my work.'

Artist: Bruce J. Korona	Medium: Music Performance - Rock and Roll
Venue: Easthampton Cultural Council	Address: 43 Main St.
Event: Guitarist and rocker Bruce Korona has been logging the rock n roll miles for a good while now, he has been in several Northeast touring bands including: 'Back in Black' the AC/DC tribute band, and more recently Bruce has been playing with the good time rock and popular band 'Cross Point'. Way back when, Bruce was the guitarist for the legendary local band Bratt, feauturing Bruce on lead guitar and vocals, and his feisty sister Gail on wailing Pat Benatar-esqe vocals!

Event: �My recent work involves the reclaiming of disposable objects in mass to create two and three dimensional works. Pieces can involve tea bags, matchbook strikes, plastic cutlery, etc. These items are generally disregarded and ignored by the everyday person. Through the gathering of the discards of contemporary culture, I ask the viewer to reconsider the function and value of these objects.'

Event: A one week event which will culminate with an exhibit at The Nashawannuck Gallery and Harry King Rug and Home during Art Walk. Participating artists will be painting within the city limits of Easthampton, at an outdoor location, and not from a photograph between October 3-10. Applications are encouraged in fields which celebrate the unique collaborations which make Easthampton the thriving community that it is, and especially which address the theme: Easthampton : in character Who is Easthampton? What are the characteristics, qualities, and traits that define the community, the geography, the people? What makes Easthampton Easthampton? The deadline for applications for 2010 Cultural Council grants is October 15, 2009. Dr. Simone Alter Muri is the director and founder of the undergraduate and graduate art therapy and art education programs at Springfield College. She is a professor in the visual and performing arts department where she has taught for over 20 years. PACE will host a reception for Simone during the October Art Walk. Event: Paul Root's work comes in many guises. He received his M.F.A. from Goddard College in February of 2009 where he studied painting, wrote and performed music, and illustrated a 300-page graphic novel entitled 'The Fetch and The Fool'. These many different projects produced several different style approaches. There are brightly painted Tarot cards, soft watercolor and pencil comic-book pages, and richly colored oil paintings. Event: Afghan Turkmen tribal Oriental rugs. A selection of antique reproduction Oriental rugs by some of the world's finest weavers, Afghan Turkmen tribal weavers who have inherited the craft from their ancestors. They still make rugs the old fashioned way with hand carded, hand spun highland wool and vegetal dyes made from plants, bark, roots etc. This is the same way the antique masterpieces were made before the 1880's and the industrial revolution, machines and synthetic chemical dyes changed the way Oriental rugs were produced.

Peggy Melanson is a two time cancer survivor and was chosen as Torchbearer for 2002 Olympics and awarded �Cool Woman of America� by American Movie Classics Television Network. She has received several Massachusetts Cultural Arts grants for her work as a mixed media, performing and ZENTANGLE artist. As a freelancer, she writes columns for several New England magazines and newspapers. Peggy is the designer and presenter of the �Finding The Courage To Create� creative writing and arts workshops for beginners. Next to her cat, � T.O. Boo� she has fallen in love with the art of ZENTANGLE. The Pioneer Arts Center of Easthampton (PACE) will be holding an artist reception from 5PM-8PM. Ms. Melanson will present a Zentangle creation workshop beginning at 6:00PM. This workshop is free and open to the public.

Event: Easthampton resident Andy Nicotera began painting in 2003. Andy began his journey painting with oils, then acylics, and finally exclusively with watercolors in 2006. He has never had any formal instruction. What he does is pure authenticity-it comes from within-a raw visceral outpouring without the intellectual influence of a learned technique.His work can be extremely pleasing.His colors create a joyous response from the heart. Experiment with colored tissue papers, scissors and glue to create your own tissue paper collage inspired by artist Eric Carle, the author and illustrator of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and illustrator of Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See?. Also, catch a screening of the film Eric Carle: Picture Writer in which Eric demonstrates his unique collage process. All ages are welcome to participate!

Event: This will be the last chance to see the breathtaking photography of Matthew Murray locally, as his gallery showing with PACE will be ending later this month. Murray has been fascinated with ruins since a very young age, but it was his work in the mental health field and his interest in its history that led him to actively pursue abandoned asylums. From that point forward, he began searching for as many different styles of abandonments as he could find; currently he has photographed derelict prisons, schools, amusement parks, ships, quarries, refineries, resorts, factories, distilleries, stockyards, houses, and many more. His website and photography were designed to help others understand his love for forgotten and unappreciated structures and to share the sites with those who may not have the chance to see them before they are erased. Currently still working in the mental health field, Matthew has displ ayed his pictures at many galleries, been featured in several publications, published a collection of his photography, assisted historical and preservation societies, and given lectures on his work. He plans to continue his efforts to visit and document as many sites as possible.

Event: I grew in the Berkshires and started painting at an early age. Influenced mostly by 15th and 16th century Northern European and 19th and 20th century trompe l'oeil artists, my work is usually anecdotal and aimed at conveying a specific emotion or mood.

Event: I would prefer to think about myself as a traveler rather than an artist. For me this process of creating hand woven necklaces evolved more from a love of the materials rather than the desire to complete a finished product. I am drawn to fibers in their rawest form - the unspun wools still smelling of lanolin, the textured shells containing remnants of the sea, the patinaed coins, bells and beads that have traveled here from tribal lands. For me, these materials have a story to tell and by embracing them I am provided with the opportunity to catch a glimpse of the setting they originated from. Weaving these materials together has given me the vehicle to connect not only with an ancient craft, but to celebrate the art, traditions and customs of our valued past.

Event: Kate's recent work is focused mainly on color and has been an exploration of the capabilities of the paint itself. She has been letting the paint do it's own thing and editing as needed. She is very drawn to the power of color and it's ability to set or change a feeling or mood. Many of the pieces are musically inspired. It is her hope that each piece evokes thought and emotion that are perhaps unexpected. Kate is a native of Western Massachusetts, is a graduate of the Williston Northampton School, received an Associate of Fine Arts Degree from Pratt Institute, and has also studied at Maine College of Art and The University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She resides in Westfield.

Event: Artist Barbara Johnson will be exhibiting her recent millscapes�paintings of familiar scenes around the industrial areas of Easthampton�during Easthampton Art Walk Saturday June 13, 2009 -5 to 8 pm at the new Venus and the Cellar Bar, 95 Main Street in Easthampton and throughout the summer. It�s a particularly appropriate venue for the work. The brick walls of the new restaurant interior echo the theme of mill building materials reflected in the form, texture, and patterns in Johnson�s paintings. The hum of industry is present right down the street in the many Easthampton businesses housed in the old West Boylston Company buildings, while others have become offices, homes, and studios for artists. As once-stalwart buildings surrender to time and nature, Johnson has been capturing in oil and watercolor this poetry of transition, much as our economy shifts from industry to service.

An official welcome from the Mayor & our State Representative, the new Mt. Tom's Homemade Ice Cream Bear Fest Ice Cream Contest Winner will be announced, sample the ice cream for yourself! The Bear Fest Track Map & Guide will be released starting at 2 p.m. Then, at 3:00 the party moves to the Easthampton Savings Bank on Main Street(the grassy field behind ESB). Three bands will be performing, our friends from Bear Country Radio will be there, Your Way Gourmet will have an extensive menu to choose from, as well as Nini's with Pizza slices and canoli's. Also Featuring Opa-Opa Brewery Beer Garden, where you can sample their New Country Bear Ale, unveiled at Opa-Opa on June 3rd! Event: We will be hosting photographer Matthew Murray and several pieces from his collection. Murray has been fascinated with ruins since a very young age, but it was his work in the mental health field and his interest in its history that led him to actively pursue abandoned asylums. From that point forward, he began searching for as many different styles of abandonments as he could find; currently he has photographed derelict prisons, schools, amusement parks, ships, quarries, refineries, resorts, factories, distilleries, stockyards, houses, and many more. His website and photography were designed to help others understand his love for forgotten and unappreciated structures and to share the sites with those who may not have the chance to see them before they are erased. Currently still working in the mental health field, Matthew has displayed his pictures at many galleries, been featured in several publicati ons, published a collection of his photography, assisted historical and preservation societies, and given lectures on his work. In addition to exciting live performances and art shows, we have events geared for your inner bike rider. Event: Come see Rocco the Acrobat-Juggling, object balancing, and handbalancing are just a few of the skills he displays along with riding one wheeled death machines. Watch out! Rocco loves to pull up audience members and make them the stars in his show. Prizes for the Bicycle Fashion Show will be awarded following this performance.

Event: New England Felting Supply will be hosting feltmaker Diane Stott of Woodstock , VT as she demonstrates her patent-pending super-gadget, the Felt-o-Matic. These handmade tools are used by people of all skill levels to make felted rugs, scarves and wall art. Diane will demonstrate the use of the tool and have examples of finished projects on hand. Participants are welcome to come give it a try - no experience necessary.

Event: The New England School of Architectural Woodworking, located in Easthampton, will be giving a wood-turning demonstration at Old Town Hall. Come watch the chips fly and see what story the wood will tell.

Event: Gestural Photography by A. P. Grant The photographs in this collection were all made by gesturing with the camera as I snapped the shutter. Using the digital camera this way�as a tool to manipulate the colors, textures, and lines of a scene�feels like painting with pixels. On the in-camera display I review a picture, and take another and another based on what emerges. I repeat this process as long as needed to tease out features that catch my eye, seeking the essence of the subject and moment. The resulting motion effects are made in the field, not by computer. Beyond a photographic method, it is the raw discovery that thrills me most about Gestural Photography.

Cottage Street Area

Artist: Kat O'Connor & her Painting Class	Medium: Painting - Oil

Event: Sweet II� What does the word Sweet mean to you? Each artist was asked to create a 12� square oil painting portraying what they thought of as �sweet�. The resulting exhibit consists of subjects ranging from candy to puppies to Hawaiian sunsets. The artists included in this exhibition were part of Kat O�Connor�s Spring 2009 Thursday night oil painting class, held in Clinton, Massachusetts. This exhibit was created specifically for Mt. Tom�s Ice Cream in Easthampton, Massachusetts..

Artist: Suzette Alsop Jones - 'Buds'	Medium: Painting - Oil
Venue: Nashawannuck Gallery	Address: 40 Cottage St
Event: Annie Steiner and Suzette Alsop Jones have been studio buddies for 3 years at Cottage Street Studios in Easthampton. Although they work in very different styles, they both enjoy painting flowers. �BUDS�, the title of their two-person show, unites their painting subjects and their friendship together. Suzette grew up in the Berkshires in a family of painters. She taught painting and architecture in the Boston area and moved to Western Massachusetts a few years ago. She has had 14 solo shows and has exhibited in group shows all over New England.

Event: Annie Steiner and Suzette Alsop Jones have been studio buddies for 3 years at Cottage Street Studios in Easthampton. Although they work in very different styles, they both enjoy painting flowers. �BUDS�, the title of their two-person show, unites their painting subjects and their friendship together. Annie was born in Belgium, where she studied art. She exhibited in Florida where she lived for a number of years. She moved to Massachusetts 13 years ago, and participates in outdoor shows in all the surrounding states as well as in MA.

Event: Painting and travel are twin passions in my life. The discovery of new scenery draws me to travel and challenges me to capture its essence in a painting. Some people explore on foot. I use a paintbrush to learn a landscape, whether local or exotic.

Her life goal is to create an arts integrated curriculum for schools, and feels that, in light of the Obama administration, the horizon has never looked brighter.

Event: Matt Johnson exhibits recent drawings and paintings this month at ECA/ECC Gallery. My recent drawings and paintings present figure, landscape and still life as they are exhibited by a recollected realism. These little fictions give motivation to the painting process...which intentionally, in the end, owns the Art. The decisions made during the execution of the work are made because of the the way that matter is getting pushed around on canvas or by the way marks are scraping onto some paper. If a pictorial narrative gets bent or twisted along the way...all the better.

Event: Storytelling for the whole family! Rona Leventhal is one person, but many voices. Through her, skies talk, turtles sing, and magic happens! Rona will have you dancing, swaying in your seats, making funny noises, singing, and laughing, as she shares stories from the silly to the serious, from the mysterious to the monsterous! Bob is an expansive and joyous storyteller, teacher, and an award-winning author of books for children and adults. Accompanying himself with flute and drum, Bob brings warmth and wit to traditional and original stories.
