The holiday season is a great time to explore the events of Art Walk Easthampton. On Saturday, December 13th, 13 locations will host art, music and performance events. It's family friendly and there's a complimentary shuttle bus to make it easier to get around. You might even find a great gift for someone special. Print the attached map as your personal guide. Below are some of what's going on:
Joyce has been painting with watercolor for the past 7 years. She studies with local artist Louise Currin of Hadley. Her inspiration for painting comes from travels to the Carribean, Canada, local areas, nature, and children.
Over the past 30 years she has practiced as a pediatric occupational therapist. Joyce currently resides in Easthampton and is originally from Boston, Massachuetts.
An eclectic mix of photoart including classic landscapes, Natural Illusions, abstracts and new Illuminated art. All works have a calming effect to compliment a comfortable home.
Scanography by Marty Klein.
Marty Klein combines decades of amateur photography and a profound appreciation of nature in a new medium he calls scanography.
In 2006, he began experimenting, using a flatbed scanner as his camera to produce limited edition prints of plants and other natural objects (many locally gathered). The resulting images revealed details in an exciting way, different than what he could achieve with his camera. Since then, he has continued to develop and refine this technique to produce a portfolio of stunning and original works.
“In my work, I strive to portray essences, the glories of natural forms and colors, the familiar and the less-seen details. Fueled by my deep connection to 'green world,' and an insatiable and wide-ranging curiosity, nature’s marvels and mysteries inspire me daily. The natural world is my sanctuary...a place for refuge and discovery. Foraging for wild foods and gardening are among my interests. The lure of the unexpected and the surprises that invariably appear in nature, entice me...invite me to linger a moment longer and look a little closer. The medium I have chosen to pursue suits me well.”
The Elusie Gallery ends the 2008 season with a group show featuring arts and crafts from present and past members of the Easthampton City Arts Coordinating Committee (about time THEY get some exposure after all the hard work they do to give exposure to others!)
The Williston Northampton School presents an exhibition “Subject + Matter,” curated by Doris Madsen. The six women artists included in the show are Julia Courtney, Kathy Klompas, Mimi Lempart, Doris Madsen, Hannah Richards, and Kathleen Trestka. The work will be on display at the Grubbs Gallery December 3- January 5, 2008.
1 Railroad Street Gallery the private residence and studio of Marcia Reed in the old train station and on the bike trail (located on Railroad Street) will be open December 13th. The gallery and studio will be open to the public for the December Art Walk. This unique building showcases Reed’s paintings on the brick walls throughout her living space from 1976- 2008. Her small intimate gallery shows all recent work from the last four years that are expressionist landscapes in oils, watercolor,s and mixed media of her travels abroad, in New England and in the US Virgin Islands.
All are welcome to visit her studio during this time. Come see the work that she is currently working on, have a cup of coffee, ask questions, sign up for a watercolor class in Italy this summer 2009, engage in conversation, sign the comment book, and say hello to her cats Zambeezie and Zadopee!
Collection of sculptures created from found steel and industrial objects. Juxtaposed forms and textures placed defiantly and solidly attached. This is their first show.
Project Intersect: Work
