My work is a very personal expression/statement of the world around me and inside of me, as I see it and feel it. I don't censor myself as an artist, because that is dishonest and against my nature. Above all else, I want viewers of my artwork to see the honesty in it, and to feel the energy, emotion, and expression. R.Bard January 2008

Paintings by Alberto Mancini at Easthampton City Arts Gallery Space.
Alberto Mancini is from the small town of Atina, located in the mountains of southern Italy where his family has lived for 400 years. His father, a portrait photographer, taught Mancini to draw at a very young age, and encouraged him to experiment with a variety of media. Mancini had his first art exhibition at the age of 15. The work displayed was of figures and landscapes in oil.
Mancini has been described as both poet and painter. The Italian poet and essayist Alfonso Cardamone said "Mancini masters his technique...he is modern because he meticulously deconstructs images...he goes beyond every post-modernism and is never influenced by banality and self-complacent insignificance."
Alberto now makes his home at Eastworks, right here in Easthampton.
Kristin Sherlaw will exhibit a selection of her porcelain with silkscreened slip decoration. Multiple layers of color and pattern combinations. At Easthampton City Arts Gallery Space.

As an artist I have expressed my inner eye in a variety of media - Oils, Watercolors, Ink, Pencil, clay, animation, 3D modeling, wood, graphic design, etc. Many of these photos were taken with the intention of using them as photo references for large scale Oil paintings. The evolved into so much more and became expression in their own right. Then the reference photos became snapshots of interesting things - then a compulsion to capture the dynamic and the interesting. Color and black & white, all digital images and all digitally processed and printed. From Key West to Mystic, CT, from New Orleans to New York City, from Hadley to Ft. Myers, these photos are only this step in the journey that is always evolving. And that is why I enjoyed it so much.

At the transitional time from subconscious to conscious, whether it be from sleep or a daydream, there is a particularly odd mixture of peacefulness and the oncoming rush of anxiety that masquerades as everyday life, that I can never seem to escape. These woodcut prints represent that moment of transition. The personal references, places, objects, and people that I use create images that convey an attempt to forget all the pressures, responsibilities, and commitments of life, although they are still very present in the conscious state of mind. A symbol of reality, whether it represents the rapidly passing time, heartbreak, uncontrollable circumstances, broken promises, body image, or other intangible ideas and diverse emotions, brings one back to the reality they have momentarily escaped. I recently have become more engaged with an introspection of intimate emotions, whether intended, implied, or tainte
d by societal guidelines with a focus on the preparation and expectations of relationships, or lack thereof, in a new series of small scale, high contrast, linocut prints.
The glimmer of jewelry has always fascinated me. A nice piece of jewelry can be used to enhance an outfit or make a statement. I enjoy making affordable, unique, custom jewelry with good quality materials such as glass, wood, shell, stones & crystals. Exploring different materials facilitates the creation of unique pieces for you to enjoy. I do custom orders that allow you to obtain a piece that is uniquely to your taste.
Cara Taylor has been designing and crocheting handbags out of recycled plastic for several years now. Friends and family (and strangers) from all over the country collect and send plastic bags which she then cuts up and 'loops' into yarn. A common material, harmful to the environment in countless ways, is transformed (or trash-formed) into an object that is fashionable and durable for everyday use. Each bag is one-of-a-kind.
