Boston Exhibits/Events
Iconos By Gaddier Rosario
ICONOS Art exibition Artist: Gaddier Rosario
Event: ICONOS Art exibition
Start Date: Thursday July 17th, 2008
End Date: Wednesday September 3rd, 2008
Location Name: Center of Latin Arts, Boston, MA
Address: 85 West Newton Street, Boston,
City, ST: Boston, MA
Website: www.gaddier.com/
Gaddier Rosario’s work is deeply rooted in his Puerto Rican heritage. His paintings and works on paper speak to the human condition through a diverse language of form, color, and texture. Rosario’s works evoke the rich context of his hybrid Latin/Caribbean heritage and simultaneously convey aspects shared cross-culturally. Figurative elements in his works shift between abstraction and representational imagery, constructing characters as varied and colorful as those that inhabit his memories and those of his home here in New England.

Composed of a collection of select paintings, editioned prints, and works on paper, the exhibition explores the artist’s genuine fondness for exploring color and its relationship to the viewer’s emotional response.

The Econoline Kings make original music that's informed by influences from Carl Perkins to Tom Waits and Willie Nelson. With other influences ranging from the number 7 to Julius Caesar, this obviously humorous trio performs rockabilly stylings from right here in the greater Springfield area.

Guitarist/singer James Heflin was born in Texas and grew up in the Deep South, so he's responsible for showing up with the heat and humidity. Heflin brings his experience playing Gypsy jazz in Wood Green Empire to The Econoline Kings, making for a deep-fried sound with an unusual brand of twang. The rest of the Econoline Kings, Greg Silveira on bass and Josh Martin on drums, hail from eastern Massachusetts. They are accomplished songwriters, and regularly play their compositions as an acoustic duo under the name Martin & Silveira. In 2002, they won the WRSI singer/songwriter contest, and recorded the album Appomattox.

My art is autonomous but not autistic; it is polluted through life, rendered sensible to the figures and symbols of the era and the signs of time: the raw matter that is transfigured by art as an offering beyond its immediacy. Always searching to freely capture the sensibility that surrounds’ me and, as its consequence, express my own truth.

Carolyn Kibe

Carolyn Kibe's representational works in oil, pastels and clay relief depict people, landscapes and florals. Subjects range from a grandmother and a coal miner, to Pioneer Valley scenes, waterscapes, and florals from the garden.

Storefront Art Workspace At Thornes Marketplace
Storefront ART Event: Storefront ART
Start Date: Monday July 21st, 2008
End Date: Thursday August 21st, 2008
Location Name: Thornes Marketplace
Address: 150 Main St
City, ST: Northampton, MA
Website: www.commonwealthcenter.org
Starting Monday July 21st, the former Details storefront on the ground floor of Thornes Marketplace will be transformed into the first Storefront ART workSPACE, featuring local artists Madison J. Cripps, Mat Matera & Dana Wilde.

Marionettes of wood and cloth with eccentric personalities and strange appendages manifest from Madison's world of Strings Attached. "For me, the most powerful moment is not when my painting looks like what I see, but when what I see looks like my painting" says Mat Matera whose work captures the details of Northampton. Dana Wilde brings a sensitivity to color and personal experience in her intuitive spirit drawings and large scale improvisational murals.

Thornes Market has stepped forward to partner with Commonwealth Center for Change’s Storefront ART program to provide local artists with temporary studio, exhibition and gathering space. Following its hugely successful launch last month at A.P.E.’s new Window Gallery, the partnership with Thornes represents a big leap forward for Storefront ART. Not only that, it’s an exciting milestone for local artists, who will benefit from low cost studio and exhibition space, and for the people of Northampton, who have responded so enthusiastically to the potential for a more energetic, interesting downtown that Storefront ART promises.

Now Thornes in not only a great place to shop, it also provides a unique opportunity to see artists at work. Come visit the artists and watch as their work develops!

Renowned Ceramic Artist Aysha Peltz Exhibit At The Artisan Gallery
Stolen Moments/Recent Work Artist: Aysha Peltz
Event: Stolen Moments/Recent Work
Start Date: Friday August 1st, 2008
Reception: Friday August 1st, 2008 @ 5:00 PM
End Date: Sunday September 14th, 2008
Location Name: Artisan Gallery
Address: 162 Main Street
City, ST: Northampton, MA
Website: www.theartisangallery.com
The Artisan Gallery is pleased and proud to announce the opening of an exhibit of the recent work of Aysha Peltz: “Stolen Moments/Recent Work”. Ms. Peltz is a ceramic artist of prodigious talents. She and her work have been often featured, won multiple awards, and are represented in numerous collections including the prestigious Schein-Joseph International Museum of Ceramic Art,
Alfred, N.Y., and the Jindezhen Ceramics Institute, Jindezhen, China. This exciting and compelling exhibit should not be missed.

Aysha comments on her work:

I seek to make pots that appear to grow from the process naturally and comfortably, that capture the essence of wet porcelain. “Stolen Moments” refers to my long held belief that by immersing myself in the ceramic process, the subtleties of porcelain are revealed. It also characterizes my studio life during the past two years. As a new mother, I have been adjusting to the abbreviated time that I now have in my studio. That time is now very focused and condensed. Time for research and development is too often a luxury. I move my work forward by focusing and clarifying ideas and forms already familiar to me.

I want my pots to be pleasing to look at while provoking memories of the viewer’s experience. The plateau on a platter, the soft flesh on a vase, the hills and valleys on a jar; my hope is that the pots convey layers that can take the viewers to their own imaginary space.

City, ST: Easthampton, MA
Art Walk Easthampton has an open call for visual, music and performance artists who would like to showcase their talents during the monthly Art Walk. Each of the venues that participate in the Walk independently select the artist or performer to feature. Visual shows typically last 3-4 weeks while performance and music are for the evening of the event.

You can submit an "Artist Proposal" online by visiting www.ArtWalkEasthampton.org and following the "Call for Artists" link at the bottom of the page. Once you have subscribed to the newsletter and confirmed your subscription, you can submit your proposal.

The process is a 3-page form with a series of questions: types of venues interested in, available dates, number of pieces proposed or length of performance, etc. Your answers form the proposal which is then made available to each of the venues.
