Do you like to do it outside? Do you know other artists who do? Do you enjoy obvious double entendres? Be sure to turn out for the upcoming Easthampton Paint Out, a competition and exhibition for plein air painters on May 8-10th. This is a great opportunity to capture uniquely Easthampton scenes, showcase the work in a gallery and perhaps be selected for the juror's grand prize award or the people's choice award. Details are below.
There's a full slate of events this week, from Amherst to Bernardston to Holyoke and Southampton. There's also some new artist opportunities including a call for sculptors who want to exhibit work in an outdoor park in Worcester and an opportunities for curators who want to put together shows in Newton. * GirlsEyeView Ware members present photographs of what the world looks like - from the inside out, reflecting upon how feelings can be seen and represented in their surroundings.
* Amherst GirlsEyeView photographers exhibit work based on their personal lives, intimate spaces and self-image.
* Through mask making, Get Up Get Down asks viewers to explore identity in different forms, with members creating work that represents them through different lenses – how they are seen by others and how they would want to be seen.
* Migration, homelessness, gender expression and interracial identity are some of the issues that Video Vanguards' members explore in their video "Living in the Grey," a title that refers to the barriers that exist in today's society and the hybrid identities within which we all live. "Through Our Eyes" explores the impact of the media on our everyday identities.
"We are very excited to work with Youth Action Coalition," says Tony Maroulis, director of wünderarts. "Inside Looking Out allows to us to honor the artistic expression of the participating YAC members while simultaneously expanding their knowledge and understanding of what's involved in mounting a gallery exhibition."

The shores of New England and New Jersey, and the rocks, trees and mountains of New York are the starting points for my drawings and paintings. I grew up around Albany and the the Dutch influence is still strong there, and it serves as the basis for my painting tradition. Washington Irving and the painters of the early 1800s captured the wildness still lurking under a region that was getting civilized even then. My paintings combine the timeless elements of the landscape with the civilizers of our own age.

Artist:Silas Kopf Event: Marquetry Odyssey Start Date: Thursday April 24th, 2008 End Date: Thursday April 24th, 2008 City, ST: Easthampton, MA
A Marquetry Odyssey is Silas Kopf’s monograph as well as a history of the craft from a technical perspective. Parallel to the history is an explanation of how the revered objects from the past have influenced Kopf’s own furniture.
Nicholson Baker's Latest Book - Human Smoke, Plus Poet Joshua Krugman Reads
Event: Writers Voice with Francesca Rheannon on Radio Start Date: Thursday May 1st, 2008 Reception: Thursday May 1st, 2008 @ 8:00 AM End Date: Thursday May 1st, 2008 Location Name: 93.3FM WXOJ FM Valley Free Radio City, ST: Florence, MA Website:www.writersvoice.net
Host Francesca Rheannon talks with Nicholson Baker about his acclaimed new book, HUMAN SMOKE: The Beginnings of World War II; The End of Civilization.
In a departure from his usual genre, fiction, Baker turns his eye for telling detail to an examination of the cavalier disregard for the human consequences of war by leaders on all sides of the conflict. We hear about how Churchill’s warmongering and Roosevelt’s anti-Semitism exacerbated the war’s civilian toll. We also hear of the courage of a few who dared to speak against the headlong rush to battle. We spend most of the hour in an in-depth conversation with the author.
Also, we take a last chance to celebrate poetry month by bringing Joshua Krugman, a member of the upcoming generation of poets, on air to read a few of his poems. Krugman’s work won first prize in the youth division of the Poet’s Seat competition and is an editor of Albany Road, the student literary magazine of Deerfield Academy.

"Anonymous Portraits" comprises a group of informal images painted during the last seven months. The subject matter, as the title implies, is of random characters selected mostly for their visual appeal, charisma, and intrigue. The "anonymous" nature of the subject initially stemmed from the need to have a range of sitters for this project but eventually took on a new dimension in that the interpretation of the subject matter was freed from the constricts of a formal portrait.

Art Walk Easthampton has an open call for visual, music and performance artists who would like to showcase their talents during the monthly Art Walk. Visual shows typically last 3-4 weeks while performance and music are for the evening of the event.

Sponsoring Group Name: West Boylston Arts Foundation Show Name: West Boylston Bicentennial Arts Festival Submission Due Date: Sunday April 20th, 2008 Website:www.wbaf.org City, ST: West Boylston, MA
The West Boylston Arts Foundation (WBAF) seeks artists, musicians and performers for the West Boylston Bicentennial Arts Festival on Saturday, September 20, 2008, at Goodale Park in West Boylston, MA (located just north of Worcester).
The WBAF was founded last year in response to town budget cuts that eliminated school art and music programs. Over the past year the WBAF has restored music and arts to elementary and middle school, but much remains to be done. All Festival proceeds will be dedicated to West Boylston school art, music and theater programs.
The West Boylston Bicentennial is a major event with activities all year. The Festival will include artist sales, music & cultural performances, theater, and an auction, transitioning to an evening program of more music, a square dance, and a celebration bonfire. The weekend will culminate with a town parade and fireworks on Sunday, Sept. 21.

You will learn the same techniques, with a modern twist. You will create at least one form that will take you 2 days to complete. We will have a slide show, and teach you some carving techniques to enhance your piece.
You will enjoy this workshop, and will have a handmade masterpiece at the end of workshop. Clay, tools, and firing included.

While opening to the poetic light of dusk, participants in this session will be guided through a series of insight meditation exercises, the practice of non-judgmental awareness, and embodied breath-work--all applied to a range of form, space and thematic drawing explorations on paper. The intention is to develop potential for a contemplative transformation of the artist's inner energy while working with basic principles of drawing and composition. Through the use of drawing tools and water-based medium on paper, we will create drawings that focus our attention on singular form and space combinations of point, line, circle, triangle, square, lotus, spiral, fluid forms, space, contrast, and union. We will also work with music and dance metaphors. Students should be prepared to engage in an insight meditation at the beginning of class, participate in a series of guided visual art exercises, then work independently
from those exercises during class and at least once between classes. Willingness to cultivate compassion and acceptance toward yourself, the group, and your work required! $195 plus materials. Thursday evenings for 5 weeks, April 24-May 22, 6:30-9:30 pm.
