Easthampton Exhibits/Events
Selected Works By Jill Lewis
Selected Works by Jill Lewis Event: Selected Works by Jill Lewis
Start Date: Friday November 30th, 2007
End Date: Thursday January 3rd, 2008
Location Name: Lathrop Community Gallery
Address: 100 Bassett Brook Drive
City, ST: Easthampton, MA
Fee: FREE
Lathrop's Art Committee is pleased to present selected works by artist/photographer Jill Lewis in its Gallery from November 30th to January 3rd. Ms. Lewis, an Easthampton native, uses medium and large format film cameras to create her work. Whereas her color works focus a minimalist's eye on objects that seem to dance within negative space, her black and whites embrace the detritus patina of old objects. Her third category of works integrates the two mediums of photographs and charcoal, exploring nuances between the two.

Lewis is a recent graduate of Massachusetts College of Art and Design.

Melissa Incampo returns to exhibit again in The Robert Floyd Photo Gallery and Learning Center. Melissa's black and white candids capture the essence of the people and scenes she photographs in a revealing photojournalistic style.Ms. Incampo has served most recently as the juror in The Gallery's Sixth Annual "Women in History Month" Photo Exhibit. Her working in prestigious NYC photo galleries has assisted Melissa in training her mind, heart and eye to continually captivate us with her striking images.

"This collection of images began in 1996 and continues to follow the everyday activities of the middle class in America. This work serves as an introduction to communities where I’ve spent significant periods of my life, including New England, New Mexico and New York. Rarely directing the scene, I react to moments that feel raw. There are many hidden clues within the narrative style of the work which presents my photography as a hope chest of stories. Lee Friedlander once simply stated that for him, “photography began as a compulsion and ends as a way of life”. I feel the compulsion to interpret my surroundings through a sequence of photographs that are refreshingly straightforward", shares Melissa Incampo.
